The perfect night-time thermostat setting for winter is 66° F. A mild drop in temperature helps you sleep better because the set point for body temperature drops when you sleep. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, keeping your thermostat between 68° F and 72° F during daytime, and turning it down a few degrees at night can save you around 10% on your energy bills.
The normal thermostat setting during the summer when you are at home is 78° F. If you plan on leaving your house for a few hours, the U.S. Department of Energy recommends raising your thermostat setting to 85°F -88°F. This can help you save as much as 10% on cooling costs. Since the nights are a little cooler during the summer, we recommend you keep your thermostat at 78° F.
