Why You Have Too Much Pressure

What Are The Signs of Too Much Pressure?

Like most plumbing problems, there are signs that you can lookout for. When your pressure is off you may notice a drastic change in the flow of water. If your pressure is too high you may notice:  

• Water shooting out of the faucet
• Banging or rattling pipes otherwise known as water hammer
• Leaking faucets
• Running toilets
• Early water heater failure
• Early appliance failure

 Pressure that is too high can cause damage to plumbing fixtures like faucets, and continuous banging of your pipes can eventually cause leaks. If you notice any of these signs, you should have your pressure tested. Call your plumber right away to prevent unnecessary damage.  

How To Treat Too Much Pressure

If you notice too much pressure, even if it only happens once in a while, it is a good idea to have a pressure regulator valve installed. Your home may already have one, at which point it may need to be replaced, as they usually last 7-12 years. This is installed at your main water line, and controls the flow of water to your home.
