If your hot water heater is making some weird noises, it’s probably time to call Rooter Hero Plumbing. We do want to say that it is common for your water heater to make small, quiet noises, but there are 4 common noises your hot water heater may make that will let you know it needs fixing.
1. Humming
If you hear a humming noise coming from your water heater, this can mean that there is something lose within it. The humming noise is usually caused by vibrations happening within your tank. Luckily, this is an easy fix.
To fix this, make sure to turn your water heater off. Look at your tank and see if any of the parts or lose of wiggly, and tighten what seems to be loose. When working on your hot water heater, please be extremely cautious. If you don’t feel comfortable working on it, give Rooter Hero Plumbing a call!
2. Hammering/Knocking
You may hear what sounds like knocking or hammering coming from your hot water heater. This means that the water inside your tank is running into the shutoff valves too fast. When this is happening inside your tank, it can be extremely loud, but it’s also not a major issue that can’t be easily fixed.
To fix this, head to your local hardware store and ask them for a water hammer arrestor. They are easy and quick to install, and it should solve your problem instantly.
3. Screams/screeching
If it sounds like someone is inside your water tank screaming or screeching, there is probably a problem in your water lines. When the check valves can’t fully open, the water is forced to run through the small pipes, building up pressure.
To fix this, inspect your valves to make sure they can open and close completely. This isn’t the easiest problem to solve, so give one of our Rooter Hero Plumbing team members a call today!
4. Tapping
This sound is another giveaway that you check valves may need adjusting or replacements. If you are hearing a tapping sound, you might have a more serious problem on your hands.
