Guide On Different Types of Heating Systems

You have a ton of choices when choosing a heating system. In this article, we won’t get into the nitty gritty differences such as the sizes and fuel sources. Instead, we will focus on the types of heating systems themselves. If you ever need heating repair or service for your heating system, you can call Rooter Hero Plumbing & Air. We are proud to serve many areas in Arizona and California. Call now to speak with a friendly representative and schedule a convenient appointment. With that said, let’s dive into the different types of heating systems.

Forced Air Heating System

A central heating system, or force air heating system, is probably the most common in the United States. In this system, a furnace heats a volume of air which is then circulated through the building via a network of air ducts, registers, and vents.

There are single-phase, two-stage, and variable-speed furnaces. Single-phase furnaces heat air all at once at a maximum setting while two-stage furnaces have a lower setting for when the temperature needs only a small adjustment. Variable-speed furnaces, meanwhile, are more precise and agile. Single-phase furnaces are most affordable upfront, but they cost more to run and have a shorter lifespan. The others are more efficient and long-lasting but are more expensive upfront.

Hydronic Heating System

While a force air heating system pushes heated air through the building, a hydronic heating system utilizes hot water for the same job. In a hydronic heating system, a boiler heats water which circulates through the pipes or radiators installed in varying parts of the rooms, floors, and walls. This circulation of hot water heats up the pipes and radiators, which then heat the air.

One of the biggest benefits of a hydronic heating system is the level of comfort. While forced air heating systems can dry out your home or office, radiant heating is more "natural" heating and does not affect the humidity in your building. They also do not involve dust, allergens, dander, and other pollutants. These systems can even heat flooring, including your garage or driveway!

Heat Pumps

Think of a refrigerator, or air conditioner, working in reverse. That is a heat pump. Like the air conditioner, the heat pump uses electricity to transfer heat from a cool location to a warmer one. The beauty of this technology is that it can heat your property and cool it too! Better yet, heat pumps are an energy efficient alternative to furnaces, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.

$95 (Reg $195) up to 6 feet. Your dryer's exhaust system can get clogged with lint, which will keep your dryer from functioning properly. As a result the dryer will take longer to dry clothes, and it will also increase your electric bill and create a fire risk.
